Fuel Injection Pumps
The Fuel Injection Pumps consist of assembly of plunger and a barrel for every cylinder. Every barrel and plunger assembly is connected to the injection nozzle through an injection line or say, a tube. This tube becomes a passage for the fuel to reach the injection nozzle that is located in the cylinder. This motion happens during the compression stroke when the piston is in process to reach the top centre of the cylinder. In all cases, the quantity of fuel varies in accordance with the kinds of plunger used.
Distribution Pump
The quantity as well as timing of the fuel injected is mainly controlled by the distribution pump. The process is synchronized by a governor. When the accelerator pedal is hard-pressed by the driver, the setting of the governor is changed automatically. In general, the Automotive Diesel Engines use a pneumatic or electronically controlled or mechanical governor. All these types of governors come with variable speed feature and are specially designed to control an engine that functions at different speeds.
Rotary Distribution Pump:
Rotary Distribution Pump is generally driven by a couple of bevel gears. This type of distribution pump comes along with a rotor which transmits fuel to the injection nozzles located in the cylinders while it rotates in motion. At the time when rotor is into motion, high pressure fuel is transmitted to the injection nozzles in the engine.
